Golf Course Superintendent
Mel Leaver Jr. is in his 26th season as Golf Course Superintendent at Brookside Country Club. Mel graduated from Emmaus High School in 1975. He continued his education at Penn State University, and in 1980, received a B.S. degree in Agronomy with a strong background in turfgrass management. During college he gained his practical experience working at Lehigh Country Club and accepted a position of 2nd Assistant following graduation. One year later, he accpeted the position of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Brookside Country Club, working 8 years under Cousre Superintendent Dave Portz. In 1989 he was approached by new ownership to manage the Golf Club at Shepard Hils in Wescosville, PA. The following year, he was hired back as Superintendent at Brookside Country Club to provide a smooth transition during the recent new construction of the clubhouse facility and grow-in-phases of the golf course. Currently, Mel resides in Emmaus, PA with his fiance Anita Schaeffer. He has two daughters Rebecca and Megan, as well as a son, Stephen. Mel enjoys spending his free time at the beach and with his grand daughter Taylor. His hobbies are flying, ice hockey, fishing, and playing golf.
